Tianzi Mountain (Wulingyuan)
Lord of the Sandstone Sea
Tianzi Mountain ("Son of Heaven Mountain") forms the high northern corner of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area and delivers the single grandest panorama in Zhangjiajie. From its ridge-top platforms you look out over a vast sea of quartz-sandstone peaks that floods with cloud after rain, leaving only the tallest spires above the white — the image most associated with Zhangjiajie. It shares the same multi-day Wulingyuan ticket as the forest park.

What to See
The famous viewpoints include Helong Park, the Imperial Brush Peaks (Yubi Feng) — a row of slender columns said to resemble upright writing brushes — and He Long's statue and overlooks. On a clear morning the layered peaks recede to the horizon; after rain, the sea of clouds is unforgettable. Tianzi connects on foot and by shuttle to Yuanjiajie and the Bailong Elevator, so many visitors combine them.
Opening Hours
Part of the Wulingyuan park, open daily roughly 07:00–18:00. As with the whole park, advance reservation has been required since June 2025.

Tickets
Entry is covered by the Wulingyuan multi-day pass (about ¥240); the internal shuttles are free. The Tianzi Mountain cable car (around ¥72 one way) saves a long climb between the valley and the ridge.
Getting There
Tianzi is reached from inside the Wulingyuan park via the Tianzi cable car or on foot/by shuttle from Yuanjiajie. Most travellers enter through the Wulingyuan (Standing Horse) gate.

Best Time to Visit
Early morning after overnight rain offers the best odds of a sea of clouds. Spring and autumn are the most reliable seasons; winter snow on the peaks is spectacular but cold and sometimes closes the cable car.
Practical Tips
Combine Tianzi with Yuanjiajie in one full day using the shared shuttle network. Bring layers — the ridge is cool and breezy even in summer. If clouds are total, walk the viewpoints anyway; gaps open and close within minutes.
