Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge

Walking on Air Above a Canyon

The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge (officially Yuntian Du) is the region's most adrenaline-charged attraction. Opened in 2016 and designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan, it stretches 430 metres across the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon on a deck of triple-layered transparent glass suspended roughly 300 metres above the valley floor. When it opened it held records as the world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge, and crossing it remains a genuine test of nerve.

What to See

The headline experience is simply walking across the glass, with the river and treetops far below your feet. At the centre is one of the world's highest bungee-jump platforms (about a 260-metre drop) and a zip-line across the gorge for thrill-seekers. The bridge is the dramatic finale to a walk through the Grand Canyon itself — a green ravine of waterfalls, boardwalks and a boat ride along its floor.

Opening Hours

Open daily, generally 07:00/08:00–17:00, with timed entry slots. The bridge can close in high wind, storms or ice, so check conditions in poor weather.

Tickets

A combined Grand Canyon + Glass Bridge ticket costs around ¥178 (canyon-only is cheaper). Bungee jumping and the zip-line are separate paid add-ons. Crossing the bridge takes about 40 minutes with photo stops.

Getting There

The bridge is near Cili / Sanguansi, about a 40–60 minute drive from Wulingyuan town. There is no rail link to the gate; most visitors come by tour bus, chartered car or taxi.

Best Time to Visit

Late spring through autumn is ideal. Clear, calm days are best for both the views and for the bridge staying open. Booking a timed slot in advance is essential in summer and on Chinese public holidays.

Practical Tips

Numbers on the bridge are capped, so reserve a slot early in peak season. Disposable shoe covers are required and provided. Hold phones and cameras firmly — there is netting, but the wind is strong and the drop is real.
